2023 Food Trends to Inspire Your Next Recipe

DECEMBER 2022

A new year is an opportunity to try new things, and what better way to bring in the New Year than to whip up an exciting and unfamiliar dish? We’re highlighting a few of our favorite culinary trends for 2023.

#1: Plant-Based Picks

No doubt, you’ve likely seen a rise in meat substitutes as well as vegetarian and vegan cuisine over the past few years. In 2023, we are definitely going to see even more recipes that incorporate vegetables over beef, chicken, fish and pork.

Spices like chili powder, cumin, paprika, and turmeric give veggies robust flavor, so many eaters don’t even miss the protein!

#2: Recreating Comfort Foods

It’s no wonder that families would always rotate the same types of meals for their kids—they’re delicious! And you just can’t go wrong with staples like classic cheese pizza, chicken tenders and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

In 2023, we expect to see the continual reinvention of the nostalgic favorites we mentioned and more. For instance, red pepper ingredients—such as cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper—and cinnamon can quickly elevate macaroni and cheese dishes. Further, quality pepper and salt make a solid foundation for gourmet burgers and hot dogs.

#3: Marvelous Mocktails

People are discovering more ways to dress up their drinks, and many are realizing that they don’t even need the booze. They’re so easy to assemble, too. For example, you can use fresh rosemary for both its appeal and its flavor. Dried basil is also an excellent addition to non-alcoholic cocktails. Among all the food and beverage trends forecasted for the new year, we know this one’s going to stick!

#4: Playing With Flavor Profiles

If you usually prioritize sweet and spicy profiles, consider challenging yourself and crafting recipes that push a bitter profile; oregano and thyme are among the most common spices that taste bitter. Of course, dishes that are more pungent are easy to create as well—especially because you’re bound to always have garlic and onion on hand.

You can even try experimenting with more sour ingredients and recipes! It’s easy to fall into patterns or uncreativity, but a new year is the perfect time to shake off those culinary cobwebs.

#5: Selecting Sustainability

People are wondering where their food comes from more than ever before. As such, organizations must continue to examine ways in which they can produce ingredients sustainably. When you purchase ingredients from our online inventory, you choose to support an organization that deeply cares about sustainability.

We are constantly working to ensure we are prioritizing the best possible manufacturing and distribution solutions for the communities we operate in and the environment at large.

We’re certain more food trends for 2023 will emerge, but we wanted to kick off this new year with at least a few cooking trends to try. Give them a go and see what you think!
