Made from jalapeno peppers that have been left on the vine to ripen before being dried and smoked - giving the pepper its distinct smoky-sweet flavor. Ground Chipotle Pepper is essential to Mexican cuisine, adding heat, flavor and color to chili con carne, soups, stews and salsas. However, this versatile pepper is not only used for Mexican dishes, but it can also be used in rubs and marinades. It also works well in chocolate or chocolate desserts where the smokiness of the pepper complements the sweetness of the chocolate.
Our Steam Treated Chipotle Pepper has a Scoville rating of 18,000 - 24,000 HPLC units. The word chipotle stems from the Nahuatl word chilpoctli, which means “smoked chile”.
