Where is garlic cultivated?
While garlic can be grown almost anywhere, there is only one place in the world where garlic is considered “the gold standard” – that place is California. Our California-grown garlic is cultivated in the Central Valley of California, where we have maintained close relationships with our multi-generational grower partners for decades.
Our agricultural operations team works closely with our growers throughout the entire growing process, from planting to harvest, to ensure flavorful, high-quality yields.
Upon harvest of the crop, the AtSource verified garlic is transported from the San Joaquin Valley of California to our facility in the garlic capital of the world, Gilroy, California, for processing. This begins with drying out the bulbs to aid in cracking the bulbs into individual cloves. Once cracked, the cloves are then washed, sliced and dried to preferred levels.

History of garlic
Garlic is native to Asia, although the exact location is widely disputed. It grows in this region in the wild. Historical records suggest it has been cultivated for over 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest cultivated crops in history. References from ancient Egypt, India and China have supported this theory.
While garlic has always been used as food throughout history, many civilizations have also utilized it for medicinal and spiritual purposes. In medieval times, it was believed garlic could help ward off evil and in Ancient Greece, it was given to athletes to help them enhance their abilities. Ancient Egyptians used it medicinally and as food for slaves to help them be strong and capable of more work.
