Where is ginger cultivated?

A light yellow powder that combines the bright flavor of citrus with a gentle heat, ginger is mainly grown in five countries, India, China, Nepal, Nigeria and Thailand. Here at Olam, we source our ginger from our trusted grower partners in Nigeria. The country is the single largest grower of the root in Africa and fourth largest ginger origin in the world.

After it is harvested, the ginger is flaked and dried at local processors before it is shipped to our state-of-the-art facility in Vietnam plant for final processing. In Vietnam we will test, clean, grind and sterilize the ginger into powder.

Ginger is also a great feed additive for both companion animals and food animals. In both cats and dogs, ginger may work well for moderating anxiety and decreasing nausea. Additionally, for dogs, ginger may have a few more health benefits including: control or reduction of bloating and flatulence, anti-inflammatory effects which help reduce arthritic joint paint and immune boosting properties which may prevent cancer and heartworm disease. Supplementation of ginger in swine diets may help increase the growth of healthy bacteria while reducing the presence of pathogensresulting in a favorable gut microbial environment. When fed in moderation to laying hens, ginger may act as an appetite stimulator, an antioxidant and may help promote circulatory function.

It has been used in Asian cooking for centuries and was also used heavily in the Carribean after it was discovered the spice could easily grow in the region.
