About Cumin

Cumin comes from the herb Cuminum cyminum, a member of the parsley family. Cumin seeds contain essential oils consisting of Cuminaldehyde, cymene, and terpenoids. It has a green, musty, terpenic, and slightly bitter flavor.

Cumin's Origin

This ingredient originates from the Mediterranean, or areas in Central and Southwest Asia. The spice’s name comes from Kerman, an ancient Persian city that produced cumin. Today, India and Iran mainly produce cumin.

How Ground Cumin Is Made

Before cumin is ground into a fine powder, it is a dried fruit. The grinding process is capable of achieving the required particle size and ensuring the volatile essential oil is retained in the final product. A low particle size distribution results in retention of the taste and aroma as well as the color of the product.

Applications for Bulk Ground Cumin

Ground cumin is brownish-yellow in color, and it is full of numerous vitamins and minerals. Cumin is a commonly used spice in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparations and is an essential part of Indian, Egyptian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and Turkish curries and specialties.

Ground cumin can be used as rubs for barbecue and to season meats and vegetables. It is an excellent complement to cilantro, citrus, coriander, garlic, ginger, and paprika. Additionally, cumin can impart flavor to vegetables, rice and grain dishes, and yogurt-dressed salads, and it also adds an earthy, warm flavor to cheese, bread, and other baked products.
